Significance of a Diagnosis of Microorganisms on Pap Smear
L'hôpital militaire de Didouche Mourad, rattaché officiellement au centre hospitalo-universitaire Docteur Benbadis de Constantine, va bénéficier, dès sa cession à partir du mois de mai 2004, de nouveaux services dans des spécialités de chirurgie. C'est ce que nous venons d'apprendre du professeur Sekhri, président du conseil scientifique du CHUC, qui nous informe, dans ce contexte, qu'à partir de septembre prochain des maîtres-assistants du CHU de Constantine bénéficieront d'une formation spécialisée à l'hôpital de Strasbourg (France). Selon notre interlocuteur, ces médecins ont bénéficié de bourses françaises pour être formés dans les spécialités de chirurgie: vasculaire périphérique, du cancer, de la thyroïde et d'urologie. La procréation médicalement assistée fera également l'objet d'une formation dans la capitale alsacienne. Ce programme entre dans le cadre de l'ouverture de nouveaux services au niveau de l'hôpital de Didouche Mourad. Et, il faudra savoir que le CHU de Constantine ne dispose pas, jusqu'à maintenant, de services spécifiques à ces spécialités. Les bourses octroyées aux médecins constantinois sont régies par la convention signée, en juin dernier, entre le CHU Benbadis et l'hôpital civil de Strasbourg, ainsi qu'avec la faculté de médecine de Strasbourg. Un accord qui prévoit, aussi, l'organisation à Constantine, les 18 et 19 mai prochain, d'une manifestation scientifique portant sur le thème "éthique et transplantation", en hommage au doyen honoraire de la faculté de médecine de Strasbourg, le professeur Dorner. Le directeur général, le directeur adjoint et le directeur des relations internationales de l'hôpital de Strasbourg seront présents à cette manifestation qui verra la participation de pas moins de 20 professeurs de la faculté de médecine de la ville française.
Abstract
The Pap smear has been in use for more than half a century as the primary screening test for preinvasive and invasive lesions of the uterine cervix. Although not the primary use and an imperfect test, it can be extremely useful in the diagnosis of some microorganisms. This review focuses on the use of the Pap smear in the diagnosis of several microorganisms including Actinomyces, Chlamydia trachomatis, Candida, Trichomonas vaginalis, Leptothrix vaginalis, Herpes Simplex Virus, the causative agents of bacterial vaginosis, and other rarer organisms. The accuracy of diagnosis using the smear varies among the different organisms in question.
